Sinus And Allergy Disease

People often try to just live with sinus problems, particularly in St. Louis where experts from all over site a phenomenon of the “St. Louis Nose”. Many people feel there isn’t a viable option for real improvement so they live with nasal congestion and other sinus-related problems or rely on over-the-counter medications that provide little or no relief.  With modern treatment techniques almost all sinus and nasal problems can be greatly improved.

At Midwest Head and Neck Surgery we excel at treating difficult sinus cases.  People travel from long distances to obtain sinus relief from our team of doctors.

We begin with a comprehensive yet conservative approach to treating sinus disease.  Your evaluation begins with an extensive history and physical examination of your nasal cavity and sinuses. We employ state of the art nasal endoscopy using a fiber optic scope and CT imaging.  When necessary, our surgeons utilize the latest techniques for functional endoscopic sinus surgery including minimally invasive computer-aided surgery.  We also offer multiple therapeutic options for the management of allergy symptoms.

Sleep Apnea/Snoring

Sleep apnea is very common and affects more than twelve million Americans, according to the National Institute of Health. Sleep-disordered breathing includes disorders ranging from upper airway resistance syndrome or just snoring to obstructive sleep apnea, including loud snoring, periods of airway obstruction, and daytime fatigue that may include heart failure.

Sleep apnea can strike anyone at any age.  Unfortunately, the lack of awareness by the public and some healthcare professionals mean many cases remain undiagnosed and untreated.  Successful treatment of many diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, depression, obesity and even Alzheimer’s require management of the patient’s sleep abnormalities. Fortunately, innovative medical and surgical treatments are available.

Our physicians address the needs of people who snore or suffer from obstructive sleep apnea or sleep-disordered breathing.  We will examine the nose, mouth, throat, palate and neck and may recommend a sleep study in a comfortable environment.

Ear Disorders and Hearing Loss

Hearing loss affects one-in-ten North Americans. A significant part of our ENT practice is helping people with acute and chronic ear problems, including hearing loss.  We are trained in both the medical and surgical treatment of ear infections, balance disorders, ear noise know as tinnitus, facial nerve disorders, perforated ear drums and general ear pain. We also manage congenital birth disorders of the outer and inner ear.

Thyroid and Parathyroid Disorders

The thyroid and parathyroid are endocrine structures located in the neck and are  associated with nerves that innervate the voice box. Another significant part of our practice is treating abnormalities of the thyroid and parathyroid glands.  Our surgeons employ innovative approaches to surgically managing thyroid and parathyroid tumors including the use of nerve monitoring and intra-operative hormone monitoring.

Benign and Malignant Tumors of the Head and Neck

Fortunately, the majority of tumors diagnosed by an ENT physician are benign.  These tumors often affect the skin, salivary glands and thyroid and can be safely cured with surgical treatment.  Unfortunately, more than 55,000 Americans develop cancer of the head and neck each year.  An ENT surgeon is the most highly qualified specialist to diagnose and treat both skin cancer and other forms of head and neck cancer.  Our practice understands that the treatment of cancer is both physical and emotional.  Moreover, our practice works closely with a network of the best oncology experts in the area to meet all the patient’s needs.
